The
view
from
little
town
Spišské
Podhradie
under
the
castle.
The
main
entrance
is
from
opposite
side.
It’s
so
better
not
to
go
from
Levoča
to
Spišské
Podhradie,
but
go
on
by
the
old
road
direction
to
Prešov,
which
is
passing by the castle left and behind it you’ll turn right.
The
path
from
the
main
entrance
to
the
oldest
and
most
precious
-
upper
part
of
the
castle.
The
castle
hill
was
settled
alredy
in
the
younger
Stone
Age.
The
beginning
of
the
castle
reaches
to
break
of
11.-12-th
century
(the
foundations),
present buildings to 13-th century. The castle decays from 1780-th year, when the garrison leaves it after the conflagration.
Historical
youngest
-
lowest
courtyard
from
half
of
15-th
century.
The
king’s
castle
later
several
times
change its owners from noble families: Zápoľský, Habsburg, Thurzo and from 1636 up until 1945 Csáky.
The
part
of
the
castle
is
restored
as
a
museum,
we’ll
find
there
except
other
the
expositure of the historical weapons and the period kitchen.
Matter
of
interest
on
the
lowest
courtyard
is
an
abundant
occurrence
of
sousliks.
To
see
them
in
the
open
nature
isn’t
simple
in
the
present
time.
They
are
protected
behind
the
walls
and
between
a
lot
of
visitors
against their natural enemies - foxes and birds of prey.
